SMC to Unveil Free Art Exhibition “The Invisible Man” by Emeritus Student

The Solo Exhibition Highlights Her Style That Evokes Enigmatic Abstraction in Response to Transformation

The Santa Monica College Emeritus Art Gallery is set to unveil “The Invisible Man,” a free exhibition showcasing new works by artist and Emeritus student Anna Conley. The exhibition will open on Jan. 18 at the Emeritus Art Gallery located at 1227 Second St., Santa Monica, and simultaneously online at smc.edu/emeritusgallery.

Featuring Conley’s fresh painted works, the solo exhibition highlights her expressive painting style that evokes powerful imagery and enigmatic abstraction in response to transformation and the deepest realms of perception and visibility.

A live Zoom Virtual Launch Event for the exhibition is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 18. Interested attendees can access the event via the link at smc.edu/emeritusgallery, leading directly to the exhibition’s opening reception.

The online opening reception, hosted by Emeritus Associate Dean (interim) Guadalupe Salgado, will include Emeritus Gallery Curator Jesse Benson engaging in conversation with the artist.

Jesse Benson expressed anticipation for the exhibition, describing it as particularly impactful due to Conley’s expressive painting style and the subject matter, involving the observation of a friend undergoing change.

In-person viewings of the exhibition will be available until Mar. 22 during gallery hours, posted at smc.edu/emeritusgallery. Additionally, the artwork will be accessible online 24/7 after 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 via the exhibition link on smc.edu/emeritusgallery. The link directs viewers to the exhibition album on a public Facebook page, allowing open access without requiring a Facebook account.

Santa Monica College’s Emeritus program, established in 1975 to offer noncredit courses to older adults, provides over 120 adult education classes and special programs, serving more than 3,000 students annually.

For further details, individuals can visit smc.edu/emeritusgallery or call 310-434-4306.
