California Highway Patrol Cracks Down on Traffic Violations in Malibu – 78 Citations Issued

CHP’s Targeted Operation Aims to Boost Road Safety and Reduce Accidents in Malibu

Malibu’s Deputy City Manager, Alexis Brown, released a statement about the efforts that The City of Malibu is taking to decrease the number of accidents in the city. Part of the effort was a targeted traffic enforcement operation undertaken recently by The California Highway Patrol. The primary goal was to promote road safety and address traffic violations. Throughout the day on Saturday, January 13, four dedicated officers worked diligently to enforce traffic laws in the area.

During the operation, a total of 78 citations were issued to individuals found violating various traffic regulations. The CHP officers specifically targeted offenses such as speeding, reckless driving, failure to obey traffic signals, and more, all aimed at enhancing public safety and reducing the risk of accidents on Malibu’s roadways.

The breakdown of citations issued during the operation is as follows:

  • 63 speeding citations
  • 6 seatbelt citations
  • 2 unsafe turn citations
  • 1 stop sign violation
  • 1 cellphone violation
  • 5 equipment violations

Mayor Uhring expressed concern over the alarming number of accidents and traffic violations, citing eleven accidents since October 17th, with one additional fatality. He called on residents, businesses, and visitors to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and remain vigilant when driving on the stretch of the highway.

Law enforcement partners, including the CHP and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, are committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and will continue proactive enforcement operations to deter unsafe driving practices. Authorities urge motorists to adhere to posted speed limits, follow traffic rules, and prioritize safety while driving.

The City of Malibu is actively collaborating with Caltrans to implement crucial safety infrastructure improvements, demonstrating its dedication to fostering a safe and secure environment for all road users in Malibu.
