State-of-the-Art Theatre Wins Esteemed Award:

Still under construction and nearly a year away from opening, Santa Monica College’s Madison Theatre has already won an architecture award.

Santa Monica-based Renzo Zecchetto Architects was given a 2007 Los Angeles Architectural Award for Outstanding Architecture in the Unbuilt Category for the company’s work on Madison.

According to Bruce Smith, SMC’s Public Information Officer, when complete, Madison will feature “a 535-seat horseshoe plan with balcony and box seating wrapping to the proscenium, providing intimacy similar to an Italian opera house.” The theatre “is slated to provide a venue for dance, music, drama and film with a focus on attracting culturally and artistically diverse productions of national and international significance in the heart of Santa Monica.”
