City Asks Residents to Comment on Strategies for Addressing Housing Needs
The City of Malibu has released an updated Revised 2021-2029 Housing Element for public review until March 20, 2024. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback on the area’s housing needs and offer input on potential strategies to address them.
The Revised Housing Element was revised following the preliminary review of the city’s February 2024 submittal by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
The public review period for the Updated Revised Draft Housing Element runs from March 13 to March 20, 2024. Comments can be submitted to Richard Mollica, Planning Director, via email at rmollica@malibucity.org, by mail, or in person at Malibu City Hall.
The updated Revised Housing Element is available for review on the city’s website, as well as at Malibu City Hall and the Malibu Library.
A Housing Element is a requirement under State Housing Element law, which mandates that each city and county identify and analyze existing and projected housing needs within their jurisdictions. It involves preparing goals, policies, programs, and quantified objectives to further the development, improvement, and preservation of housing.
The four major components of the Housing Element include a Housing Needs Assessment, a review of Housing Constraints, an assessment of Housing Resources, and the Housing Plan, which outlines goals, policies, and programs for addressing housing needs, constraints, and resources.
