This Grant Will Provide Essential Support to Current and Former Foster Youth Enrolled at the College
The Rotary Club of Santa Monica has generously awarded the Santa Monica College Guardian Scholars Program a grant totaling $21,750.
This grant will provide essential support to current and former foster youth enrolled at the college, assisting with textbook costs, food, transportation, and alleviating certain fees.
The funds were raised during the 16th Annual Santa Monica Rotary Wine Festival held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on March 9, marking the highest amount ever raised by the club for a featured charity. Last year, Rotary awarded a $10,000 grant to support SMC’s basic needs programs.
Established in Fall 2013, the Guardian Scholars program at SMC provides comprehensive support to current and former foster youth, including academic and career counseling, priority enrollment, tutoring, meal assistance, student success workshops, mental health therapy, and more.
The grant from the Rotary Club of Santa Monica will enhance the academic journey of Guardian Scholars, contributing to their success and empowering them to achieve their goals. To learn more about the Guardian Scholars Program and NextUp, visit www.smc.edu/fosterservices.
