Police Seek Suspect Who Burglarized Downtown Santa Monica Office Building

The Building Houses the Offices of a Legal Services Company and a Local Newspaper

By Zach Armstrong

An investigation is underway after an unidentified suspect, or suspects, stole several items and cash from a Downtown Santa Monica office building last week.

On April 25 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the assailant broke into the “Comma Building” located at 1640 5th St. Although damage was done to a doorknob, the first business the suspect entered had no items stolen from it. However, about ten hours later, the suspect entered another office space within the same building. He or she stole a laptop, a wireless speaker, and a “small amount” of cash, according to an SMPD spokesperson.
The spokesperson did not state which specific businesses were victims of the incident. The Comma Building houses the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and local newspaper publisher Santa Monica Daily Press.
