City Moves Closer to Finalizing 2021-2029 Housing Plan After State Approval
The Malibu Planning Commission is set to hold a public hearing on August 19, 2024, to discuss the draft of the Revised 2021-2029 Housing Element and associated code amendments. This meeting is crucial in updating the city’s housing plan to meet state requirements. The commission’s address is 23825 Stuart Ranch Road.
The agenda for the August 19 meeting includes a review of the Housing Element, which was revised and submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on July 29, 2024. On July 31, the HCD responded with a letter confirming that the draft meets state requirements.
To fully comply with the State Housing Element Law, the city must complete a few remaining steps, including adopting code amendments related to affordable housing sites. Although no rezoning is required, the HCD considers these code amendments necessary and will process them concurrently with the Housing Element’s approval.
Following the Planning Commission’s hearing, the draft Housing Element and code amendments will be scheduled for review by the City Council, marking the final phase of the approval process.
