Rilo Kiley

Monday, October 15, 8 p.m., $25 (no sales at box office)

Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main Street, 310.458.8551

The darlings of Silver Lake are heading to Santa Monica for one night only. Rilo Kiley will be concluding its tour in support of Under the Blacklight with this special engagement at the Civic Auditorium. The follow-up to the 2005 release More Adventurous, Rilo Kiley’s latest album is a bit of a departure from previous work with songs like “Silver Lining” that seemingly point to a Steely Dan influence. Under the Blacklight is also the band’s first major label release, and, judging from recent magazine covers, Rilo Kiley’s potential breakthrough album. Check out the band now before it moves on to stadium tours.

Focusing on Miles Davis’ 1970 performance of his landmark album Bitches Brew at the Isle of Wight Music Festival, the film documents that pivotal moment when the jazz musician “went electric.” Included with the concert footage are interviews with former bandmates Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea along with Carlos Santana, Joni Mitchell, and other musicians.
