St. Monica Falters After Strong Half:

The St. Monica team that hadn’t scored since the first week of the football season not only had an early touchdown against league power Cantwell-Sacred Heart Friday, October 19, but was in a competitive game at halftime.

However, a deficit that was only 14-7 at intermission turned into a 40-7 defeat.

“They wore us out,” said Coach Shawn Ritter. “It would have been good if we could have kept playing without the intermission because we had some momentum.”

St. Monica will play at Verbun Dei Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m. Both teams have 0-7 records.

There’s been some spark to the Mariners’ offense the last two weeks with the return of James Wright, who has missed most of the season with an injury.

Wright scored the Mariners’ touchdown. Playing running back and slotback he rushed for 80 yards and caught five passes.
