High-Speed Chase Ends with Surrender Near Santa Monica Pier

The chase began in the West Adams district following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon

A dramatic high-speed chase from South Los Angeles to Santa Monica concluded with a suspect’s surrender near the Santa Monica Pier on Tuesday afternoon, authorities reported.

The Los Angeles Police Department took the driver into custody without incident around 1:00 PM after a pursuit that saw speeds exceeding 100 mph and erratic driving, including weaving through traffic and briefly entering oncoming lanes.

The chase began in the West Adams district following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, though specific details about the alleged crime or the weapon involved remain undisclosed by LAPD. Officers first attempted a traffic stop near 8th and Spring streets in downtown Los Angeles before the suspect fled west on the 10 Freeway, with SkyFOX of Fox11 capturing the pursuit overhead.

The driver exited onto surface streets in Santa Monica, driving recklessly and making multiple U-turns at the intersection of Ocean and Colorado Avenues, near the pier’s entrance.

Exiting the vehicle with a leashed dog, the suspect lay face-down on the pavement as LAPD officers approached. The dog, described as a white animal with brown spots, initially roamed the sidewalk and street before jumping back into the Toyota Corolla through the open driver’s side door. Officers quickly leashed the apparently uninjured pet and took it into custody.
