Westside Basketball Roundup:

The Santa Monica High girls’ basketball team started its season with three one-sided wins in the Moorpark Tip-Off Tournament.

 The Vikings began with a 64-42 victory over Newbury Park, then routed Agoura, 79-45, and Camarillo, 73-12.

 The Samohi boys are 1-2. They played in the Pacific Shores-Redondo Tournament and lost to Gardena, 78-49. Samohi then defeated Locke, 64-45, but followed with a 59-48 loss to Lynwood.

 The Brentwood boys began their season in the Pacific Shores-Mira Costa Tournament. The Eagles defeated Torrance, 58-55, lost to Mira Costa, 71-58, and won the fifth place game from Banning, 63-49. The tournament winner was St. Bernard.

 The Brentwood girls lost their season opener to Bishop Montgomery, 48-45, but then began league play by defeating Montclair Prep, 46-40, as Lauren Edwards contributed 19 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.
