Brentwood Will Seek New Football Stars:

It was a successful run for the Brentwood football team this season – 12 wins and a berth in the CIF Northeast Division championship game.

But next year Coach Patrick Brown will face the task of replacing 14 seniors.

“That’s a large group of seniors for us,” said Brown. “But we do have some key players returning.”

The 2007 team tied the school record for wins and lost only twice – to powerful Paraclete in a non-league game and to undefeated St. Margaret’s in the championship game.

Mason Moss accounted for more than 2,000 yards passing and running, but junior Josh Amster received some quarterback experience last year before switching to wingback this season and is likely to be Brown’s quarterback in 2008.

The other likely honors candidate will be Charlie James, a major factor this season at tight end and defensive end and the team’s kicker.

Some other important returnees will be defensive tackles Matt Greenberg and Colin Caderett, guard Mikey Stone, running back Ray Nicholson, and receiver Ben Green. Greenberg also plays linebacker and running back.

Brentwood went undefeated in the Alpha League, which is considered to be the most powerful one in the division.
