Socalo Honors Día de los Muertos With Festive Menu and Live Mariachi in Santa Monica

The Restaurant Celebrates the Day of the Dead With Themed Cocktails, Traditional Dishes, and Live Music

Socalo, the modern Mexican restaurant from acclaimed chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, will honor Día de los Muertos with a weekend of food, music, and tradition, featuring special menu items and a live mariachi performance.

Guests can celebrate the Mexican holiday honoring departed loved ones from Friday, Oct. 31, through Saturday, Nov. 1, when SOCALO will serve a limited-time Day of the Dead menu inspired by the flavors and symbolism of the season. A live mariachi band will perform on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., adding a joyful soundtrack to the evening.

SOCALO’s Día de los Muertos offerings include both inventive dishes and festive drinks that blend authenticity with creativity. Featured cocktails made with Luna Nueva Tequila include:

  • Calavera Verde – crafted with Luna Nueva Blanco, cucumber, aloe, and lime
  • Jalisco Tea – a warming mix of rooibos, chai, spices, Luna Nueva Reposado, and Peychaud’s bitters

The dinner menu will feature seasonal plates such as:

  • Tostada with octopus, scallop tatemado, avocado, and carrot–onion jalapeño escabeche
  • Pollo Muerto Frito – jidori fried chicken thigh with carrot–pumpkin seed mole, blistered cherry tomato, spinach, and kabocha squash
  • Pan de Muerto served with chocolate champurrado, a traditional holiday pairing

The restaurant invites guests to enjoy this celebration of Mexican culture through food and music in the heart of Santa Monica. Reservations are available at socalo.com.
