The 2015 opening at Santa Monica Place earned praise from Uniqlo USA CEO Larry Meyer as a “perfect next step”
Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo is relocating its Santa Monica store within the city, moving from the Santa Monica Place mall to a new spot on the bustling Third Street Promenade with an opening slated for Dec. 5.
A sign outside the upcoming location on the 1400 block of the pedestrian-only shopping district — next to the Culto Futbol soccer apparel store — advertises the grand opening date. The move keeps Uniqlo firmly rooted in downtown Santa Monica, adjacent to the oceanfront mall it has called home since 2015.
The current store, at 395 Santa Monica Place, Space 232, occupies about 10,000 square feet on the second level of the open-air shopping center. It carries Uniqlo’s full range of casual apparel and accessories for men, women and children, drawing shoppers from across the Los Angeles area. The location has garnered a 4.5-star rating on Google based on more than 600 reviews.
The 2015 opening at Santa Monica Place followed a successful pop-up shop that debuted in July 2014 and ran through the holiday season. At the time, Uniqlo USA CEO Larry Meyer hailed the permanent spot as a “perfect next step” after strong customer reception, positioning it to capture foot traffic heading to the nearby ArcLight Cinemas..
