Malibu Invites Residents to Franklin Fire Anniversary Event on December 8

City Leaders Will Recognize Partner Agencies, Reflect on Recovery Efforts, and Invite Participation

Malibu plans to commemorate the upcoming first anniversary of the Franklin Fire by honoring affected residents and recognizing partner agencies that assisted in the response. The tribute will take place during the City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m.

Mayor Marianne Riggins said the milestone offers a moment for the community to reflect on its challenges and its ongoing recovery. “The anniversary of the Franklin Fire is an opportunity to acknowledge the hardship our community has endured and lean into the strength that continues to carry us forward,” Riggins said. “We encourage residents to join us as we honor our past and look ahead to the future we are building together.”

Riggins and Mayor Pro Tem Bruce Silverstein are scheduled to deliver brief remarks to open the program. The city will then present certificates of recognition to agencies and groups that supported firefighting and recovery efforts, including regional fire departments, law enforcement partners, Arson Watch, the Fire Brigade, Volunteers on Patrol, the City of Calabasas, and the Malibu CERT Team.

Community members may attend in person at Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, or watch the meeting live on the city’s YouTube channel.
