Caltrans announces lane closures on State Route 2 and Echo Park

Up to one lane in each direction of Santa Monica Boulevard will be closed overnight between Wellesley Avenue and Brockton Ave

Caltrans will implement lane closures and parking restrictions along portions of State Route 2 in West Los Angeles and Echo Park next week as part of a multimodal pavement project that includes curb, gutter and sidewalk work.

Construction is scheduled to take place primarily overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., unless otherwise noted. Parking restrictions will be in effect around the clock from Monday, Jan. 5, through Sunday, Jan. 11.

In West Los Angeles, up to one lane in each direction of Santa Monica Boulevard will be closed overnight between Wellesley Avenue and Brockton Avenue during the construction period. No parking will be allowed on either side of Santa Monica Boulevard along that stretch throughout the week. In addition, parking and sidewalk access will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the corner of eastbound Santa Monica Boulevard and Wellesley Avenue to accommodate gas line relocation work.

In Echo Park, up to two lanes in each direction of Alvarado Street between Montrose Street and Montana Street will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. During daytime hours, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., up to one lane in each direction may be closed along the same stretch. Parking will be prohibited in both directions on Alvarado Street between Montrose and Montana streets for the duration of the work.

Caltrans said driveways to businesses will remain accessible during lane closures, though motorists and nearby residents should expect shoulder and parking restrictions in both directions along SR-2. Advance signage will be posted to notify drivers of parking restrictions.

The $70.2 million project spans approximately five miles of SR-2, stretching from Centinela Avenue in Santa Monica to the route’s terminus in Echo Park. The work is divided into three segments: Santa Monica Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and Interstate 405 in West Los Angeles; Santa Monica Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and U.S. 101 in Hollywood; and Alvarado Street and Glendale Boulevard between the U.S. 101 ramps and the SR-2 terminus in Echo Park.

According to Caltrans, the project is intended to extend pavement life and improve safety along multiple sections of the route.
