Chicago-based brand plans walk-up window and patio on Pico Boulevard.

Intelligentsia Coffee is set to expand its Southern California footprint with a new Santa Monica location that will introduce the company’s first drive-thru concept, according the What Now Los Angeles.

Plans call for the coffee bar to open at 3010 Pico Blvd., at a site previously occupied by a Wienerschnitzel. Unlike Intelligentsia’s traditional café-style locations, the Santa Monica outpost will feature a drive-thru and walk-up window rather than indoor seating. A patio with seating for more than 40 people is planned for customers who choose to linger.

The menu will focus on espresso- and tea-based beverages, including several signature drinks. Among them is the Iced Angeleno, made with four shots of espresso shaken with milk and house-made vanilla syrup. Another featured item, the Avena Latte, combines oat milk with simple syrup, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla and orange peel.

The Santa Monica location will also offer a children’s menu with steamed drinks flavored with chocolate, strawberry, vanilla or honey. Items designed for dogs are also planned, reflecting a broader effort to appeal to families and pet owners.
