Crossroads Girls Seek CIF Championship:

A year ago the Crossroads girls’ basketball team reached the CIF playoff semifinals in Division 5-A but their season ended in a loss.

All five starters were either freshmen or sophomores, so the mission for this season was obvious – bring home that championship.

Now, as the playoffs approach, the team is in position for a playoff run. Crossroads entered the final week of regular season games with a 6-0 record in the Delphic League, the toughest one in its division.

Consider that a member of the league, LA Baptist, won the CIF championship last season. And that two other members of the league, Crossroads and Sierra Canyon, have been ranked one and two most of this season. And that coach Kevin Cormier has been pleased with the progress of the Crossroads players.

“We’re very happy with the maturation of the girls,” said assistant coach Al Buck. “They’ve been very focused in practice.”

In the final regular season home game the Roadrunners’ two seniors, Chanda Miller and Jesse Eckstein, were scheduled to be recognized for their leadership.

Crossroads’ record was 14-7 overall. The team won some close games and won easily when it had a major advantage in talent such as a 61-18 victory February 2 over Archer.

In the playoffs, center Christina Murray and guard Megan Bear will be two of the key players. Pairings are to be announced this weekend.
