Westside residents invited to weigh in on corridor safety and bike improvements.

Protected bicycle lanes are being proposed along Ohio Avenue as part of a broader effort to enhance safety and mobility on the Westside, according to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

Ohio Avenue serves as a key east–west connection between Westwood, West Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. Because it does not provide direct on- or off-ramps to the 405 Freeway, the street has become a preferred route for bicyclists traveling to UCLA, nearby transit stops, and neighborhood destinations.

City officials said the proposed changes are intended to slow vehicle speeds, improve safety at intersections, and create a more accessible corridor for people of varying ages and abilities.

The project stems from community outreach conducted in 2022 and 2023, when LADOT identified four potential bike corridors through its Westside Mobility Projects initiative. Officials said feedback gathered during that process shaped the current proposal for Ohio Avenue.

LADOT will host both in-person and virtual meetings to gather additional public input. An in-person meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Collins & Katz YMCA, 1466 S. Westgate Ave. A virtual meeting will follow on March 12 at 6 p.m. Residents can RSVP for the open house online here.
