LAPD Seeks Information in Fatal Hit-and-Run of 88-Year-Old Man

Police said a vehicle described as a possible black sedan was traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed an 88-year-old man Wednesday evening.

The collision occurred April 1 at about 7:35 p.m. along Avalon Boulevard near East 49th Street, according to investigators. Police said a vehicle described as a possible black sedan was traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing eastbound in a marked crosswalk on the north side of East 49th Street.

The driver fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or identify themselves, as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released his name pending notification of next of kin.

Officials reminded pedestrians to use caution when crossing streets, obey traffic signals and use marked crosswalks. Motorists were also urged to stop immediately after a collision when it is safe to do so, contact emergency services and remain at the scene.

The city offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the suspect, or resolution through a civil compromise, under its Hit-and-Run Reward Program.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator D. Chung of Central Traffic Detectives at (213) 486-0760 or via email at [34458@lapd.online](mailto:34458@lapd.online).
