The gathering will include demonstrations, community activities and open skating.
Los Angeles officials and local partners will host a skateboarding event at Venice Beach later in June as part of an annual celebration of the sport’s roots in the area.
The event, billed as “Venice Beach Takeover,” is scheduled for noon on June 21 and will coincide with Go Skateboarding Day, a global celebration observed each year by the skateboarding community. Organizers say the gathering will include demonstrations, community activities and open skating.
Professional skateboarder Paul Rodriguez, widely known as “P-Rod,” is expected to attend alongside other skaters.
Rodriguez, a Northridge native, rose to prominence as a teenager and has become one of the sport’s most recognizable figures, known for his street skating style. He has been sponsored by Nike since 2004 and has released multiple signature shoes, reaching a milestone with more than 10 models — a distinction shared by only a handful of athletes.
In addition to his skating career, Rodriguez co-founded the skate brand Primitive Skateboarding, which produces boards, apparel and videos.
City officials have also recognized Rodriguez’s influence on the sport. Los Angeles has designated June 21 as “Paul Rodriguez Day” in Venice, highlighting the area’s history as a birthplace of modern skateboarding.
Organizers are encouraging attendees to RSVP in advance.
