Santa Monica Public Library Announces July Youth and Family Programs

The month’s programming begins July 2 with “Regular Guy Dave’s Wacky Balloon & Fun Academy” at the Montana Branch Community Room.

The Santa Monica Public Library will offer a variety of free educational and entertainment programs for children and families throughout July, featuring balloon artistry, bubble science, music and dance, and Pokémon-themed activities at branch locations across the city.

The month’s programming begins July 2 with “Regular Guy Dave’s Wacky Balloon & Fun Academy” at the Montana Branch Community Room. The interactive event will teach children how to create balloon animals, flowers, and swords while participating in magic tricks and games. The program runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and is designed for children ages 5 to 11. Free tickets will be available beginning at 2 p.m.

On July 7, families can attend “Bubblemania” at the Fairview Branch Community Room from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The science-focused presentation will explore the properties of soap bubbles through demonstrations involving giant bubbles, rainbow bubbles, square bubbles, and soap films. Participants will learn about concepts including reflection, refraction, and surface tension. Free tickets will be distributed starting at 2 p.m.

Young Pokémon enthusiasts are invited to gather at the Pico Branch Annex on July 9 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for the library’s Pokémon Club. Children ages 5 to 11 can play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, participate in Pokémon-themed activities, and meet fellow fans. Beginners are welcome. Library officials ask participants to leave personal Pokémon cards at home.

The month concludes with “Party Time in America Music Show” on July 15 at the Ocean Park Branch Community Room. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Professor Party’s Rhythm Explosion will feature live music, drumming, sing-alongs, comedy, and dancing. The family-friendly event will offer free tickets beginning at 2 p.m.
