LA Man Arrested on Felony Charges After Incident Sparks Brush Fire

Detectives determined that Azimi intentionally fired multiple flare rounds during a dispute in the neighborhood. One of the flares struck vegetation.

A Los Angeles man has been arrested on felony charges after authorities said he intentionally fired a flare gun during a neighborhood dispute, igniting a brush fire in Woodland Hills.

The incident occurred April 20 in the 23000 block of Del Valle Street, where the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a brush fire reportedly caused by a person discharging a flare gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from the LAPD’s Topanga Division identified the suspect as 43-year-old Roy Azimi of Los Angeles. The case was later referred to the department’s Major Crimes Division for further investigation.

Detectives determined that Azimi intentionally fired multiple flare rounds during a dispute in the neighborhood. One of the flares struck vegetation near a victim’s home, sparking a brush fire, investigators said.

Azimi was arrested May 21 in Rosemead on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly causing a fire. He was booked under booking number 7243423.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed two felony charges: assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly causing a fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
