Temporary closure begins July 27 to allow crews to remove portion of nearly 90-year-old bridge.
A key roadway providing access to the south side of the Santa Monica Pier parking lot will close for one week next month to allow for bridge demolition work.
Appian Way will be closed to all vehicles from July 27 through August 3 as part of the Santa Monica Pier Bridge Replacement Project. The closure is needed to safely demolish a portion of the existing nearly 90-year-old bridge over the roadway, officials said.
The Santa Monica Pier itself will remain open throughout the closure, including all restaurants, shops, attractions and amenities. Vehicle access to Parking Lot 1 North will continue from Pacific Coast Highway.
Visitors are encouraged to use nearby public parking options such as Beach Lot 4 South, Beach Lot 3 North and Parking Structure 8. Clear signage will direct pedestrians and drivers to the Pier.
Public transit, including several bus routes and the Metro E Line, along with rideshare services, will also remain available.
