Santa Monica Police Department officers were called to the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard on Saturday, July 25, at 5:21 p.m, after a report about a woman who needed medical assistance inside an apartment building was received by dispatch.
After officers arrived, they found a woman who had severe injuries, and paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
SMPD Detectives and forensic investigators are treating the death as a homicide and are conducting an investigation.
The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8491.
A second press statement was released at 8:45 p.m., which stated that a suspect has been identified and taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation. The SMPD spokesman also said that no other suspects are being sought at this time and that any additional relevant information will be released when it is available.
Other media outlets have reported that the woman was found at The Manor, which is an adult residential care facility, but the SMPD has not confirmed this.
