Samohi Softball Team Commands League Race:

In quest of its sixth consecutive Ocean League championship, the Santa Monica High softball team had a showdown game scheduled Tuesday, April 22.

The opponent was Culver City, and both teams were undefeated in league competition.

But it wasn’t much of a showdown. The game ended after five innings via the CIF’s mercy rule. If a team is ahead by 10 runs after five innings, the contest is concluded.

Samohi won, 10-0, as Kelsey Holm, Celisha Walker, and Holly Elander led the offense and Walker pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Two days later Samohi won another game, 16-0, over Inglewood.

Along with its dominance of the Ocean League, Samohi schedules tough opponents in non-league games in order to sharpen its’ skills for the upcoming CIF Tournament.

Samohi had won two games the previous week to reach the El Segundo Tournament semi-finals. However, on Saturday, April 26, the Vikings lost to Torrance, 6-0, with Walker absorbing the defeat.

Torrance broke the game open with three runs in the fifth inning.

Samohi is now 15-8 and Walker’s pitching record is 9-6. Torrance’s record is 20-3.
