New Corsair Field Turf Passes Inspection:

It’s unanimous. All three Santa Monica schools that recently played football on Corsair Field’s new artificial turf are highly impressed.

SMC coach Robert Taylor calls the school’s new FieldTurf “one of the most important changes in the history of the school’s athletic program.”

Sean Ritter of St. Monica welcomes bringing the Mariners back into Santa Monica three times this season as opposed to playing all home games at St. Bernard High in Playa del Rey. And he realizes the return to Corsair Field wouldn’t have been possible without the installation of the turf that eliminates wear and tear on grass.

On Friday night, October 10, Santa Monica High played on the turf for the first time in its 28-14 win over Capistrano Valley.

“I had heard good things and the turf was everything we expected and more,” said Coach Zach Cuda. “This FieldTurf is the top of the line.

“Also, the new lights make a big difference. The field is much brighter.”

On the October 17-18 weekend St. Monica will play at Corsair Field Friday night and SMC will have a game Saturday night. Samohi’s game will be against Morningside at Coleman Stadium in Inglewood.
