Art Division’s Exhibition “Identity in Los Angeles” Opens at the Annenberg Community Beach House

Next Friday a new exhibit opens at the Annenberg Community Beach House. On view from June 30 – November 6, 2017, Identity in Los Angeles will showcase artworks created by the students of Los Angeles-based organization Art Division, led by founder Dan McCleary and instructors Luis Serrano and Fabian Cereijido, PhD.

In preparation for this exhibition, students were asked to explore their identities through utilizing an array of media including sculpture, photography, video, painting, and drawing. The project was also coupled with students’ investigation of the term “identity” through the study of short stories, lectures, films, poems, and visiting other exhibitions concerning immigration, gender, race, and stereotype.

The opening reception will be held on June 30, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. and will include live performance by musician Matias Anaya. Come back for the closing reception on Saturday, October 28 from 3-5 p.m., including a screening of Buen Provecho by the Art Division Film Collective at 3:30 p.m.

Founded in 2010, Art Division is a nonprofit organization dedicated to training and supporting under-served young adults, ages 18-26, interested in studying the visual arts. Through free professional arts instruction, academic assistance, and college and career counseling, participants develop the tools they need to pursue higher education, achieve self-sufficiency and find careers in the arts.
