Santa Monica Mirror To Host Three Local Election Forums In October:

With the Nov. 4 election just a month away, time is running out to RSVP for three upcoming candidate forums being hosted by the Santa Monica Mirror, under the umbrella of Mirror Media Group (publisher of The Mirror, Westside Today, Brentwood News, Century City News, and Yo! Venice!).

Congress, State Senate, L.A. County Supervisor

• The first forum will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, from 1:30 pm to 4 pm (program begins 2 pm). It will be held at University Synagogue, which is located at 11960 Sunset Blvd. at in Brentwood.

This forum will feature discussions between Ted Lieu and Elan Carr (candidates for Congress in the race to replace Henry Waxman) and Sandra Fluke and Ben Allen (candidates for California State Senate).

Bobby Shriver, candidate for County Supervisor, will be given 10 minutes to speak. Sheila Kuehl, who can’t attend that day, will appear via a 10-minute video that will be recorded just prior to the event.

Free parking is available at the venue (limited, first-come first-serve basis); street parking is also available.

Santa Monica City Council

• The second forum featuring all 14 Santa Monica City Council candidates will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm (program begins 7 pm). It will be held Cross Campus, which is located at 929 Colorado in Santa Monica.

As parking is extremely limited at the venue, a free shuttle will operate from 5:45 pm at the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard. Only attendees with disabled placards will be permitted to park at the venue’s parking lot. Parking rates at the library are $1 per hour for the first two hours and 30 minutes. After that, the rate is $1 per 30 minutes.

The candidates vying for the three seats (four-year term) are:

Sue Himmelrich, Jerry Rubin, Pam O’Connor, Terence Later, Frank Gruber, Phil Brock, Nick Boles, Whitney Scott Bain, Zoe Muntaner, Kevin McKeown, Richard McKinnon, Jon Mann, Michael Feinstein, and Jennifer Kennedy.

SMMUSD Board of Education / SMC Board of Trustees

• The final forum featuring all seven SMMUSD Board of Education candidates and six SMC Board of Trustees candidates will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22. It will be held at the Santa Monica Main Library’s Martin Luther King Auditorium, which is located at 601 Santa Monica Boulevard from 5:30 pm to 8 pm (program begins 6 pm).

Again, parking rates at the library are $1 per hour for the first two hours and 30 minutes. After that, the rate is $1 per 30 minutes.

The candidates vying for the four seats on the SMMUSD Board of Education (four year term) are: Laurie Lieberman, Dhun May, Ralph Mechur, Oscar de la Torre, Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein, Craig Foster, and Patty Finer.

The candidates vying for the four seats on the SMC Board of Trustees (four year term) are: Barry Snell, Maria Loya, Louise Jaffe, Nancy Greenstein, Andrew Walzer, and Dennis Frisch.

All forums are free and open to the public, but RSVP is required for entry.
