Samohi Basketball Teams Go Undefeated In League:

The Santa Monica High boys and girls basketball teams completed Ocean League play undefeated with two more victories this week.

Both teams went 10-0 amd await theur pairings for the upcoming CIF playoffs.

The boys routed Culver City, 64-42 and Hawthorne, 88-55, The girls also had easy wins, defeating Culver City,72-56 and Hawthorne, 65-40.

Both teams completed the regular season wiyh 20-6 records. The boys have won 15 of their last 16 games, losing only to Etiwanda, a team they beat in a later game. The girls have won nine of their last 10, kising inly to mater Dei.

In the Samohi boys’ win over Culver City Solomom Singer scored 18 points and Cory Walker 14.

In the girls final regular season home game the seniors were honored.

With both teams being so successful, the Vikings’ gym was filled to capacity several times. The boys and girls both received their severest challenges from Inglewood High but came through with victories.

The boys are coached by James Hecht, in his 16th year. The girls are coached by Marty Verdugo, in his fourth year. Verdugo came to Samohi as an assistant to Hecht.

Last season both teams reached the semi-finals of the CIF playoffs before losing.
