Santa Monica Man Arrested For Stealing Bicycle:

Latest Santa Monica Police Department news.

A 25-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested on Friday, May 29, after being found in possession of a stolen bicycle.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress at 5:30 am in the 1900 block of 12th Street.

As the officers approached the scene they spotted a replica watches man walking in the adjacent alley who fit the description of the suspect that they had been given by dispatch, namely a man in his 20’s wearing dark clothing and gloves.

When the officers drove into the alley in order to speak with the man, the suspect crouched behind a parked SUV in what the officers considered to be an attempt to conceal himself from view.

The officers had then exited their vehicle and approached this man, asking him what he was doing hiding behind the SUV, to which he replied that he needed to urinate and was searching for a suitable place in which to perform said bodily function.

The officers had also noticed that the man was in possession of a bicycle. They asked him if it was his property, to which he responded that he had needed transportation and had taken the bicycle without consent from the owner.

The man then directed the officers to the place from where he had taken the conveyance.

This resident of Santa Monica was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $8,500.
