Santa Monica Rent Control Board Election Race Over Before It Begins:

While the race for the Santa Monica City Council is a crowded ballot with potentially 15 candidates vying for three seats, it does not look like there will be much of a race for the five-member Santa Monica Rent Control Board.

There are three seats up for grabs on the Rent Control Board on Nov. 4. Coincidentally, according to the City Clerk’s office, only three candidates officially qualified for the race as of today and the nomination period ended earlier this week.

Those three candidates are (in alphabetical order): Steve Duron, Todd D. Flora, and Nicole Phillis. Flora is the only incumbent.

Two other candidates – Patrick Regan and Anastasia Roark – pulled papers last month but did not file their paperwork.

As Duron, Flora, and Phillis are the only three candidates in the three-seat race for Rent Control Board, the trio will now each secure a seat on the board regardless of how many votes he or she would receive.

Current Rent Control board members Marilyn Korade-Wilson and William Winslow are not running for reelection.
