St. Monica Improves, But Palisades Wins:

Since St. Monica has lost all five of its football games this season, Coach Chris Caminiti can measure progress not with final scores but how his small but scrappy team competes.

Although St. Monica lost a non-league game to Palisades Friday, October 6, Caminiti saw some positives in the 35-14 defeat.

“We played all right,” he said. “We moved the ball on the ground as our players are getting better at executing the option offense. The score was deceiving.”

On the final play of the first half St. Monica fumbled a punt on its own one-yard-line, allowing Palisades to score a touchdown. On the final play of the game Palisades scored on an interception.

Caminiti said Ted Arnold played a strong game at linebacker and James Wright returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

On Friday, October 13, St. Monica will have its homecoming game against Mary Star. The 7 p.m. game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Bernard High in Playa del Rey, where St. Monica plays its home games.
