The U.S. Nationals amateur sumotori competition took place at Venice Beach on Saturday, June 13, with men and women of all weight classes competing. Sumo, Japan’s national sport, is growing in popularity around the world, with amateur sumo participants from over 80 countries. The International Sumo Federation is recognized by the International Olympic Committee, with hopes of sumo becoming an Olympic sport in 2012.
