Samohi Wrestler Qualifies To Wrestle In Austrian Open

Samohi sophomore girls wrestler Madison "Maddy" Tung placed fourth in the Fila Cadet Body Bar Women's National Championships held in Lakeland, Florida Saturday and Sunday wrestling for both the Titan Mercury and the Santa Monica Bay Wrestling Clubs. Tung wrestled in the Fila Juniors competition, held at the Body Bar Women's National Championships, in a tournament that saw her qualify to be an alternate on the Fila Cadet National Team. Santa Monica High School Wrestling head coach Mark Black said that Tung did well in the Body Bar Women's National Championships wrestling at 108 pounds.

Samohi Wrestler Wins Women's Western Junior Regional Championship Competition

Santa Monica High School sophomore wrestler Maddy Tung won first place in the Women’s Western Junior Regional Championship wrestling competition in Las Vegas, NV Wednesday, April 17 and with the win qualifies to go to the Junior and Cadet National Championships. Santa Monica High School wrestling head coach Mark Black said that Tung is a fierce competitor when wrestling. "She has a huge competitive spirit and doesn't like to lose," said Black. "She takes care of things on the mat."

Samohi Champion Wrestler Walker Repeats As California State Wrestling Champion

Samohi girls wrestler Jessica Walker repeated as the California CIF State Girls Wrestling Champion for a second year pinning Northview's Maddy Tyrone to win the California State Girls Wrestling Championship bout. The win marks the third time Walker has appeared in the championship bout and the second time she has won the title. Walker placed second in 2011 and first in 2012.

In June of 2012, Jessica Walker was awarded a $2,500 Discus Scholarship for her prowess in athletics, community service, and the arts.  Walker was also awarded the prestigious Juneteenth Scholarship for her essay submission during the Juneteenth Celebration.

The sun is shining bright on California state champion for girls' wrestling Jessica Walker, who won multiple honors last week, including the $2,500 Discus Award Scholarship award for her achievements in the areas of athletics, community service, and the arts, putting her on the A-list as a National Scholarship Finalist.
