16th Annual Will Rogers Annual Read-a-thon:

FROM WILL ROGERS SCHOOL

This year’s theme is “Turn over a new page.”. We kicked off the event with a school-wide pajama night on October 13. Students, teachers, and their families wore their pajamas and brought their favorite books to read together. The event this year will run for two weeks and will conclude on October 28. We once again decided it would be more beneficial to have it earlier in the school year to stress the importance of good reading habits.

During these two weeks our Will Rogers students focus on and get excited about reading, and are able to increase their reading stamina while having fun with their families and friends. Once a week our principal, Steve Richardson and our librarian, Mr. Sea are thrilled to read to students before school in the library. Each night students record the number of minutes they have read and get sponsors to support their efforts. These donations are then used to fund various enrichment programs ,such as vocal music, classroom supplies, and our STEM lab.

We at Will Rogers are excited to see the motivation and interest in reading instead of watching television and playing video games. We would like to acknowledge Heidi Schuler Bright and Suzanne Sanders Trepany of Teles Properties for their 8th year in a row of sponsorship to Read-a-thon.
