Venice’s St. Mark Is Second in L.A. CYO Boys’ Volleyball: Has most successful season in school history

The St. Mark (Venice) Boys Volleyball team (8th grade and under) completed the best season in school history by finishing second in the 200-school Los Angeles Catholic Youth Organization.

In the best of three championship match against American Martyrs (Manhattan Beach) on May 25 at Serra High School, the Lions came back from a 10-3 game one deficit to win 27-25. Holding a 21-20 lead in game two, the boys could not close it out and lost 25-23. Game three went to the Mustangs, 15-10.

It was the fourth time a St. Mark boys volleyball team has finished second place in the CYO.

St. Mark also finished second in the prestigious Delphic League, which is comprised of much larger middle schools.

St. Mark’s second place finish to Harvard-Westlake in three games was the best ever for a St. Mark sports team in the Delphic League.

On the season, the Lions won the Cougar Classic Tournament Championship at St. John Chrysostom School, finished second at the St. Therese Tournament, captured the CYO League Championship along with the runner-up finishes in both the Delphic League and the L.A. CYO.Playing a highly competitive schedule, St. Mark compiled a 25-5 match record and an impressive 75-16 overall game record (.824).
