Parcel Tax Exemption Deadline Is Nigh:

Approved on June 3, 2003, by Santa Monica and Malibu voters, Measure S, a six-year parcel tax at $225 per parcel, contains a provision that exempts people who are 65 years old and older from paying the tax.

To receive the exemption, people must own and live in the taxable property. It must be their primary residence, and they must apply annually for it.

Renewal forms were sent in May to everyone who has applied for and received the exemption. Those form must be completed, signed and returned by July 31.

First-time applicants may call (310) 450-8338 ext. 269 to request an application, or may print out the application from on the website: smmusd.org (click Senior Exemption then Application for Senior Exemption).Completed and signed applications must be returned, along with required proofs of age and property ownership, to: Santa Monica-Malibu USD, 1651 16th St. Santa Monica, CA 90404-3891, ATTN: Dawn, no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 31.
