Hollywood Goes Inside Out for a Night:

The legendary Van Dyke Parks will be among the performers at SAVOR, a benefit for Inside Out Community Arts, co-sponsored by K-JAZZ, at a classic Hollywood haunt, American Legion Post 43, on Saturday, November 5.

Post 43 was frequented by Shirley Temple, Bogart, Bacall, Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe in its heyday. For SAVOR, it will be fitted out with five bars, two concert stages and a series of themed rooms.

In addition to pop iconoclast Parks, Ice Age Jazznet, funny men Louis CK and Friends, and downbeat poet/actor Joe Hernandez-Kolski will perform. K-JAZZ’s Megan Marlena will emcee.

Scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m., SAVOR’s menu will feature fine foods and wines and hand-crafted beer. Packages, including signed instruments, dream getaways, flying lessons, lunches with Marlena and former Governor Jerry Brown, and more will be offered in a silent auction, and there will also be casino gaming with prizes, dance lessons, and massages.

According to its mission statement, “Through the arts, Inside Out Community Arts promotes healthy interaction among diverse at-risk and underserved Los Angeles middle-school youth. Led by specially trained teams of professional artists and high school age mentors, Inside Out bridges cultural, geographic, socioeconomic and differently abled boundaries to support youth in creating and presenting topical theater and art, empowering them to make positive choices as individuals and members of the greater community.”

Proceeds from SAVOR will help underwrite the Inside Out Community Arts programs.

American Legion Post 43 is located at 2035 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood.
