Gloomy Sunday at Arlington West:

Los Angeles Veterans for Peace and volunteers endured cold and rain on Sunday, New Year’s Day, to set 2179 crosses in the sand at Arlington West, just north of the Santa Monica Pier.

Since mid-February, 2004, the Veterans for Peace have displayed the field of crosses every Sunday and on some holidays to honor the American soldiers who have been killed in the Iraq War.

In that time, the number of casualties has nearly quadrupled.
