FootballCharles Gordon, a star on the 2001 Santa Monica High football team, has declared for the NFL draft, foregoing his senior year at Kansas. He was a star receiver and defensive back there. His NFL position is yet to be determined.The quest of former Santa Monica College receiver Steve Smith to play in a Super Bowl for the second time came to an end when Carolina lost to Seattle in the NFC championship game Sunday, 34-14. Smith’s 1997 SMC teammate, Chad Johnson, was also in the NFL playoffs this season with Cincinnati.BasketballAbout 20 former Santa Monica College players returned Saturday for the annual alumni game, presided over by Community College Hall of Fame coach John McMullen.
