Basketball This Week: Samohi Girls Avenge Lone League Defeat:

The Santa Monica High girls basketball team took care of business last Friday, when it avenged its lone Ocean League loss with a home court 60-48 victory over Beverly Hills.

With one weekend left in regular season games, Samohi has a 7-1 league record. Inglewood is 5-3. Three teams are tied at 4-4: Beverly Hills, Culver City and Morningside. Hawthorne is 0-8.

Samohi is 18-2 overall. The leading scorers are Emily Foshag with 15 ppg, Katy Keating with 11 and Daisy Feder with nine.

The St. Monica girls lost to Mary Star, 56-44 but then won two games. St. Monica defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 47-38 and followed with a 67-32 rout of St. Anthony. The team has a 4-5 league record and is 9-11 overall.

Crossroads was defeated by Archer, 33-28 and by Grace Brethren, 52-33. The team has a 2-6 league record and is 3-15 overall.

Harbor League champion New Roads added three more victories to its total to go 15-6 on the season and 6-0 in the league. The wins were over Price, 58-14, Ribet Academy, 56-12 and Hillcrest Christian, 54-39.

The Brentwood girls are 12-8 after losing to Windward, 62-42, defeating Calvary Chapel, 61-36 and losing to Bishop Montgomeryt, 52-51.

Malibu (10-7) will complete its schedule by hosting Lighthouse Christian of Santa Monica Friday at 6 p.m.

With one weekend left in the Western League, Venice has a 7-1 record, and Palisades and University are tied for second place at 5-3.

Palisades handed Venice its first league loss, 66-58 and also had a 47-46 victory over University. In Venice’s other game last week, the Gondoliers defeated Fairfax, 61-50.

In boys’ play, Santa Monica defeated Inglewood but lost to Beverly Hills, 57-46. Samohi is 16-8 overall and 5-3 in the Ocean League.

Crossroads lost to Campbell Hall, 79-45 and Montclair Prep, 63-49 and has a 2-17 record.

St. Monica lost three games and the Mariners are now 2-6 in the Camino Real League and 9-14 overall. The losses were to Bishop Amat, 53-35, to Cathedral, 64-62 and to Mary Star, 59-51.

New Roads edged Ribet Academy, 63-61 and lost a non-league game to St. Bernard, 68-50 in the Hope International Tournament.

Brentwood lost to Campbell Hall, 82-54 and defeated Calvary Chapel, 51-32, bringing its record to 11-12, with 3-4 in league games.

Malibu has one game left in its season after losing to Santa Paula, 73-54 and Oaks Christian, 80-36. The Sharks have a 7-15 record. They’re 1-6 in the Frontier League.

Palisades stands third in the Western League with one week left on the schedule after defeating University, 59-53 and losing to Venice, 80-73. The Dolphins are 11-11 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Fairfax is undefeated and has handed second place Westchester two losses. Westchester has been state champion three times in the last four years.

Venice is in fifth place. It was crushed by Fairfax, 106-62. The Gondoliers are 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the league.
