Four outstanding women were honored at the 29th Annual YWCA Santa Monica/Westside Women of the Year Dinner held at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.

In recognition of their contributions to the community, recipients of this special award were Dr. Janet Salomonson, Medical Director, Cleft Palate Center at Saint John’s Health Center, whose surgical skills and dedication to volunteerism have transformed the appearance and lives of hundreds of children born with clef palates both in the United States as well as Central and South America; Patricia (Patti) Tanenbaum, Volunteer, Founding Chairwoman Beverly Hills School District Community Service Program; Mary Setterholm, Founder, LA Surf Bus, Surf Academy, which provides ocean safety and surf lessons to inner city children; and Flora Gil Krisiloff, Volunteer, Brentwood Community Council.

The YWCA Santa Monica serves more than 2,500 women and children from 10 communities on the Westside of Los Angeles through activities and classes that promote lifelong personal growth and wellness. The Y spends more than 85 percent of its budget on direct services and is supported solely by private, corporate and foundation contributions.

Proceeds from this event will be used to support the Y’s many programs such as its Housing and Education program for young women who were in foster care, a community-wide Breast Cancer Support and Exercise program as well as its National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
