Hare Krishna Festival of the Chariots

A local tradition for 30 years, the first Festival of the Chariots dates back about 5,000 years to Jagannatha Puri, India. The festival celebrates the return of Lord Krishna, the most childlike and playful of all the Indian gods, to his hometown of Vrindivan. Our local festival will feature three 40-foot tall decorated chariots filled with devotees chanting the all-important, ancient mantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare HareHare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare The parade begins at 10am at the Santa Monica Civic, heads south on Main St. and ends up at Ocean Front Walk Plaza, where there will be a free vegetarian feast, dancing, exhibits and entertainment, 310.837.8147
