The new HBO Santa Monica Headquarters Audiovisual Systems project was honored by the Los Angeles County Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association with an Electrical Excellence Award as winner in the Electronic Systems (over $500,000) category. The award recognizes the electronic systems contractor (Direct A/V), the electrical engineer (National TeleConsultants) and the owner (HBO). A panel of industry professionals makes the award selections based on criteria that include originality, aesthetics, workmanship and difficulty of installation. The electronic systems will support facilities that include editing rooms, offices and conference rooms.
WWCOT Design Principal Andrea Cohen Gehring has been elected to the Board of Regents of the California Architectural Foundation (CAF), announced WWCOT founder Chet Widom. CAF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of architecture and the science and art of environmental design, preservation and construction. Cohen Gehring has a degree in Architecture from USC (1985) and has served as a Director of the AIA/Los Angeles. Demand Media, Inc. of Santa Monica announced the acquisition of privately-held Hillclimb Media, which hosts websites for travel, sports and the outdoors, including Trails.com and GolfLink.com. This is the latest in a series of online media and technology acquisitions by Demand Media, which was founded in April of this year and now “receives more than 35 million unique visitors per month through its niche content websites and more than 250,000 domain names,” according to the company. www.demandmedia.com
