“We’re going with Kevin McKeown, Bob Holbrook and Terry O’Day,” said Brad Lomas, President of Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109, in a statement released Monday, September 25.
Lomas said that the Firefighters’ Political Action Committee held interviews with all 10 council candidates, and each was given 20 minutes to talk about their qualifications and to answer questions regarding issues that affect the ability of Santa Monica’s firefighters to do their job.
“It was a tough call,” said Political Activities Chair Paul Radomski. “This is a good pool of very talented candidates, all of whom were sympathetic to the struggles faced by our firefighters on a daily basis. The issue discussed the most was how do we continue to deal with the homeless situation and its effect on our ability to deliver first-rate paramedic services here in town.”
“We felt that Kevin McKeown and Bob Holbrook are the strongest incumbents who have given us unwavering support in the past. They have always been there for us,” said Lomas. “And what impressed us the most about Terry O’Day is his well-rounded reputation on the Planning Commission as a consensus builder. He’ll be an excellent City Councilmember.”
