Brentwood Closing In On Playoff Berth In Baseball:

With a 15-4 record the Brentwood High baseball team is hoping to earn a berth in the upcoming CIF playoffs.

         Brentwood has a 5-1 record in the Alpha League but trails Whittier Christian, which is 7-1. Three teams are expected to receive playoff invitations.

         Jeff Gleischman ranks second in the league with a .400 batting average. Ben Oliva has the league’s lowest earned run average (.766) and also leads the league in stolen bases with eight.

         In other Westside baseball…

         Palisades continued its runaway with the Western League championship by defeating Venice, 15-5.

         Palisades is 12-0 in the league. It has faltered in non-league games, resulting in an 18-9 overall record, which includes a recent 2-0 loss to Cleveland High.         Venice is 12-10 overall, including 6-6 in the Western League.
