SM Angels Defend Little League Championship:

On any level of sports, repeating as champion is extremely difficult. Winning once is gratifying but attempting to win again presents considerable challenges.

The Santa Monica Angels Little League softball team has met the challenges.

The Angels defended their District 25 Girls Minor League championship in competition hosted by Beverly Hills Little League. In the championship game the Angels defeated the Beverly Hills Red Sox, 8-5.

Other tournament participants were West Los Angeles, North Venice, Culver Marina, Malibu, Culver City and City of Angels.

Caitlin Cavanaugh pitched no-hitters against Culver Marina and North Venice in earlier rounds, and Jordan Breuer pitched the championship game, struck out nine batters and was named MVP.

Mitch Dorf was the manager. Jared Breuer, Joel Klein and Marc Dauber were coaches.

Some offensive stars were Kiki Kravitz, Carly Friedman and Annie Dauber.

The team played 13 games this season and won 12.
