Kerry Ford, a community college All-American linebacker at Santa Monica College in 1981, died last week at an assisted living home where he resided. He was 46.
Ford is considered one of the best football players ever at both Culver City High and SMC.
In 1979 he led a Culver City High defense that had seven shutouts in a 13-0 season – the only undefeated team in that school’s history. The season was capped by a 13-0 win over Lompoc in the CIF championship game played at Corsair Field.
Ford played the next two years at SMC, went on to play linebacker at San Jose State and had a tryout with the Los Angeles Rams. He was the Rams’ final cut and didn’t have an NFL career. The cause of the death is listed as unknown.
