Man Shot on Virginia Avenue:

A man was shot as he drove west on Virginia Avenue near Cloverfield Boulevard in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 28, and he proceeded to drive himself to the hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening wound.

At 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Santa Monica police responded to a call from a local hospital informing the department that a gunshot victim had just walked in, and officers spoke with the victim there.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been sleeping in his truck that was parked in the 1900 block of Cloverfield Boulevard when he was awakened by an unknown person or persons who broke out the driver’s side window and fled on foot.

“The victim drove his truck and chased the suspects who turned west onto Virginia Avenue,” said SMPD spokesman Lt. Alex Padilla. “As the victim drove down the street, several gunshots were fired towards the truck. One of the gunshots struck the victim in the upper body,” Padilla added.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310.458.8427 (24 hours) or Detectives at 310.458.8451 (M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at 800.78.CRIME (72463).
